Growing Shasta and Carpet daisy in garden
Shasta and Carpet daisies are almost similar-looking flowers and you can identify them easily. They grow from 2 to 4 feet maximum in the garden. These white petals flowers look very attractive and cover the ground like a carpet.
Their growing process is very easy if you know the basics of gardening with less maintenance.
Season of growing and blooming
The best season for growing or transplantation of Shasta and Daisies is mid-spring to early summer. Although in cool regions, mid-summer is not that bad at all if sunlight is intense(temperature is not even too high). But in hot regions, it is best to transplant them or sow them as early as possible from mid-spring to early summer. Once the roots get established, they like the full sun for further growth.
Buds start to appear on each plant from mid-summer. They start blooming from then to the fall and the flowers look very shiny white carpet on the ground.

Method of growing Shasta and Carpet daisy
Step 1- Prepare the soil first
Considering your garden soil is loamy or well-drained with rich soil components then it is good to start. Otherwise, you need to prepare a new soil mixture that fulfills the requirements we need for Shasta and Carpet daisies. For that, you need to prepare a mixture of garden soil, sand, and vermicompost in a ratio of 2:1:2 respectively. Spray some water for moisture in the prepared soil mixture or you can use it while mixing.
Step 2- Sow the small nursery plants
It is always best to use nursery Shasta and Carpet daisy plants instead of growing them from seeds. So gently remove the nursery cups or pots and sow the plants at a certain distance from each other. You need to grow the Shasta and Carpet daisy plants separately so get confused or don't mix them. Make a certain gap of 1 foot in rows and columns. Use small cultivator tools to dig and plantation. Digging depth should be a couple of inches if plants are too small or cover the 1/4th portion of the plant in the soil.
Step 3- Irrigate regularly
Full sunlight dries the soil faster so you need to keep your eyes on soil moisture till the plants get to establish their roots in the new soil and get more habitable with the environment. Don't wet the soil but irrigate when it seems the soil is getting dry or less with moisture for the whole year.
Step 4- Fertilization requirement
You can fertilize the Shasta or Carpet daisy plants twice a year and the timings should be only in spring and fall. No need to use fertilizers in winter for Shasta and Carpet daisies. If it is immediately required then fertilize in summer but soil moisture should be enough.
Step 5- Flower buds and blooming
If you follow and care for your plants in full sunlight and irrigation, it will not take much time to grow buds on each plant from mid-summer. These buds grow further and start blooming from mid-summer to fall. They stay for enough time and then start to slow down their growth. Once plants get their peak height then they get enough buds otherwise less. After blooming, plants go into dormancy for the winter and next regrow from the following spring.
Basic mistakes beginners do
Well, I mentioned every possible detail to grow Shasta and Carpet daisy plants if you have some experience in gardening. But at the beginner level, people do some mistakes that don't cost the plants life but lack several flowers blooming and overall plant health.
Following are some basic and minor mistakes beginners do while growing Shasta and Carpet daisy plants-
- Don't choose well-drained soil
Choosing the right soil for Daisy plants matters even if you are growing them in your native land. If you don't grow them in the required soil and nutrients, plants may grow but will not bloom flowers on time.
- Either wet the soil or let it dry for long
Too less irrigation or too much irrigation is always bad for any plant especially garden plants like Shasta and Carpet daisy plants. Beginners do these mistakes unknowingly but it affects their plants' growth.
- No fertilization or too much fertilization
No fertilization can slow down the growth of plants and too much fertilization can burn the plants. In both scenarios, plants get affected badly so plenty of balance fertilization is very important for Shasta and Carpet daisy plants.
