Is Aerogarden safe in USA?, Examples and per kg cost comparison with organic farming

The Aerogarden method is a futuristic and advanced method of growing food without soil even inside a room throughout the year. Although its production cost is higher than ordinary methods of farming.

Presently, there are ready-made kits available in the markets that claim to be helpful and easier for Aerogardening. But for those who can do organic farming in their yard or garden, is it more advanced or productive?

Here, we compared both organic gardening and The Aerogarden method with their estimated cost for producing 1kg of food too.

Is Aerogarden safe?

Aerogarden methods are getting popular in the USA, but still, people have doubts mind that Is it safe to have an Aerogarden or Aerogarden foot?

Is Aerogarden safe?

We'll discuss it here in detail but before that take a look at the brief about Aerogarden.

Brief on Aerogarden

The Aerogarden method of farming is an indoor method of growing various vegetables and plants without soil, sunlight, and unwanted weeds/spontaneous plants. Its' working principle is based on hydroponics and plants grow with the help of LEDs.

It is distinct and almost unaffected by theIs AE outdoor atmosphere and climate conditions. It is successful even in odd conditions like greenhouse farming.

In Aerogarden, soilless cultivation is only possible when we prepare this me aqueous solution with certain components or a mixture of as many components soil provides to plants. Thus, it becomes soil-less farming in which we use fertilizers precisely and get free from manual irrigation.

Is aerogarden organic?

Well, apart from its advantage and quality of growing plants in soil-less conditions, it is important to know whether that is Aerogarden organic.

Well, to understand that we'll discuss this in three sections. First is Aerogarden pods, minerals we use, and the food that grows.

In reality, we can't say that Aerogarden pods are guaranteed to be organic. Although these pods are helpful to grow throughout the year I'm not sure about the particular pods you got. But you can find it on the labels of the product that it is certified or not.

Next, we can talk about the minerals we use for plants. Are they organic? Every mineral is chemical but the thing that matters is that separated in labs or extracted from organic materials. Trust only certified and approved brands that claim their Aerogarden minerals are extracted from organic materials because many times, companies sell cheap and lab-made minerals at cheaper cost with attracting labels.

To know about the food quality, safety, and other things, I've explained it further.

Aerogarden food quality safe or not

The Aerogarden method may not be fully organic while growing but if used materials are not mixed with pesticides or harmful herbicides, then it can be a very good food to consume.

In reality, the supermarket food we consume doesn't grow with precise methods and techniques. But in the case of Aerogarden, food can have more nutrition and a high-quality diet.

Although from the outside, a conservative mindset can force people to think about it negatively like it doesn't grow using soil, only chemicals are used in this, and so on. It is one of the reasons that's why people consider it a non-consumable food.

But as I mentioned above, it can be good food if the used materials and components are quite good quality and non-synthesized.

The Cost difference between Aerogarden and organic gardening

Aerogarden and organic gardening both are very different methods of growing food. The following points differentiate them so that we can further compare their basic cost-

  • Aerogarden is a soil-less method whereas organic gardening is a purely natural method of growing food.
  • Aerogarden-produced food can have some low nutrition quality(during basic mistakes) but organic food doesn't have any quality loss or side-effect.
  • Aerogarden is the least bio-mass-using method but for organic farming, you need so much organic decomposed biomass.
  • Aerogarden doesn't need sunlight and can be done indoors but for organic farming, sunlight is necessary even in ideal climate conditions.
  • Now, let's understand what is the cost difference between Aerogarden and organic gardening. Although if you follow the vertical method of farming then both of these methods can be more profitable and productive.

Here, we compared the cost of per kg production in both methods-

Aerogarden cost

  • Aerogarden kit cost- $50
  • Electricity cost- $10
  • Production cost- $5

Total cost- $65

This cost is too high because of the initial cost of buying an Aerogarden kit. But later, it gets reduced to only est. $14 to $18 per kg.

Organic garden cost

  • Compost cost- $5
  • Irrigation cost- $2

Total cost-  $7

Every time, you have to invest est. $7 per kg production of organic food.

Challenges with Aerogarden for Beginners

If you buy a ready-made Aerogarden kit from the market then it can be helpful and easier for you to install at home even for beginners.

But starting Aerogarden with trash, without any readymade kit, is very challenging work for everyone. Let's understand these challenges on the beginner level-

  • One can face difficulties while preparing the hydroponic solution for plants in a certain ratio for each plant and be precise with it. The ratio of minerals is different for every plant. So it is the most obvious part of the mistakes that a beginner can do.
  • Using proper good quality and non-reactive containers is always good but people do mistakes here. Unknowingly it is easier to make this mistake possible.
  • Sometimes, people don't adjust the LED's height in the required geometry. This doesn't affect much until at least light is reaching the plants continuously.
  • Either in excitement or a hurry, people forgot to avoid pesticides mixed or minerals. This mistake can reduce the quality of food in the Aerogarden system.

Examples of Aerogardening

There are examples of both vegetables and some fruits that we can grow in Aerogardening.

In vegetables, it is very common to grow big leaves of vegetables like lettuce, spinach, etc. Normally, we can grow, cabbage, herbs, microgreens, tomatoes, etc.

We also can grow, berries, strawberries, and avocado-like fruit plants in Aerogardening.

Clusia Hedge trimming method and guide for beginners in USA

Clusia hedges are evergreen shrubs that improve the atmosphere of your landscape and lawns. This hedge looks shiny green and needs very little maintenance throughout the year. But letting Clusia hedges grow without trimming and pruning is not helpful to avoid diseases, overgrowth, unnecessary plant energy use, and imbalance of the shrub. Trimming provides the plant with a better look, grooms it well, and helps prevent diseases and yellow leaves. Pruning in the right season is important; otherwise, you may face different difficulties, just like when maintaining Barberry bushes later. Bermuda grass Vs Centipede grass identification and turf comparison in USA

Bermuda(Cynodon dactylon) and Centipede(Eremochloa ophiuroides) both lawn turfs are almost the same climate lawn grasses. But before choosing one of them, you need to understand their performance, maintenance, and other aspects.  Although it is very common that people to choose Bermuda grass mostly, after this comparison, you will start to reconsider Bermuda grass and Centipede grass.  Although most people go with the trend I will suggest you go according to your need.  Bermuda grass vs Centipede grass in the USA We can compare two lawn turfs by discussing various aspects like their identification, traffic handling capacity, climate conditions, growth rate, fertilization required, maintenance, etc. If two turfs are almost similar in these comparison points, then you can go with either.  If turfs are very different from each other in the same points then you should choose low maintenance and high quality and more suitable turf according to your need.  Turf-Identi...
