But you are here to know its removal process. So before discussing that in detail, one needs to know the basics of Juniper bush before removing it.

Juniper bush removal in USA

Let's discuss the features of the Juniper bush first then I'll share the method to remove it.

Juniper bush features

  • Color- Dark green
  • Nature- Perennial
  • Shape- Short shrub
  • Size- 2 to 3 feet max.

Possible reasons for removing Juniper bush

Although there is no such disadvantage that you must remove Juniper bush but still some personal reasons are possible to force one to remove them permanently as follows-

  • Renovation landscape

Lawn turf and garden plants are easier to remove and renovate compared to shrubs. The trees and shrubs like Juniper bushes are very difficult to remove if you are considering renovating the landscape.

In such cases, it is always better to follow the right method of removal of Juniper bush.

  • Invite rats

Short shrubs like Juniper bushes are very comfortable for rats to hide and build holes. Because of their low height, rats hide in them. In a few cases, it is found that snakes follow them in Juniper bushes.

So if you have kids and pets, then there is a high chance that snakes can bite them.

So it is better to avoid and remove Juniper bush permanently in such cases.

Is trimming or pruning not enough?

Sometimes trimming or pruning is a solution to reduce the presence of shrubs in lawns and gardens. But in many cases, it is not a long-term solution to avoid rats and moles.

Trimming and pruning can make the plant shorter but if you need a permanent solution then it is better to remove the Juniper bush permanently.

Landscaping renovation asking for the permanent removal of such shrubs and trimming and pruning is not useful if one wants to redecorate the lawn and garden from the trash.

Steps to remove Juniper bush

I saw many Juniper bushes in my locality, and believe me, they are slightly difficult for a person that never touched a sharp tool in his/her life. Even if I tell you the method in the easiest way, still, it will not be so comfortable for such people.

So if you know and can handle the sharp tools and cutting machines, then the following steps will help you to remove the Juniper bush cleanly-

Step 1- Take an inspection of the Juniper bush

First, mark the area from which you want to remove the Juniper bush permanently. Don't forget to mark the root line that you have to remove.

Step 2- Ready your tools

Make your tools ready after marking the area. You need small cutter machines, hooks, an axe, and a jack.

Step 3- Cut the green portion first

Start your cutting machine and trim all the green portions first. Don't remove the stump till now.

Step 4- Mark and the roots

After removing the green portion, you will have left a stump and root portion to remove. Now dig all the roots with digging tools. Fix the jack in the roots and try to pull it upwards. If the roots are too long then cut them near the stump to pull them out whole.

Step 5- Remove the stump

Now, dig under the stump and pull out the stump with a cutter and jack. Dig at the bottom first, fix the jack, and pull out the stump slowly.

Step 6- Remove the roots

In the end, pick all the roots from the soil. Don't leave any root pieces there or it is enough to invite small insects, grubs, and mites.

Step 7- Test the soil

The next task is to improve the soil performance for the next plants or grass. For that, you need to inspect it first. You need to perform a lab test with your soil to see the condition.

Step 8- Recover the soil

Based on the results, use suitable organic fertilizers to make it habitable for other plants you want to grow in the soil.

Is it good to use shrub killers to remove Juniper bushes?

It depends from person to person. Shrub killers help to remove Juniper bush-like shrubs with less effort. First, they kill the shrub, and then with some effort, the Juniper bush can be removed.

It is a slightly longer and cheaper process to remove Juniper bushes from the lawn and garden. But without experience and knowledge of shrubs removals, it can hurt the soil too.

In my opinion, beginners should ask for the help from experts with cutter machines and removal of such difficult shrubs.

Be aware of fake labels, information, and fake chemicals that claim to remove shrubs in a day.
