DIY methods to remove field bindweed from lawn

Unlike any other weed, it is quite difficult and complex to remove field bindweed from the lawn DIY. Following are some easier methods to remove it temporarily and for longer periods-

Measure and mark first

Before starting the removal process, you should make sure to find all the roots of the grass. Next, take a cultivator tool and make them visible so you can easily attempt removal on them.

Removal in early stages

So till now, we can consider that you learned a few basics about field bindweed. So it is necessary to figure it out in the early stages otherwise you know its consequences.

In the early stages, it remains softer and easier to handle. First, figure out the roots, and then use a sharp fork or scratching tool. Now, you can easily pick all the roots up even the entire rhizomes.

After that, treat the lawn area with suitable fertilizers.

When you pick up the roots, pick them properly, and don't let any of the rhizomes be left in the soil.

This method can't promise to remove filed bindweed permanently, but it can at least remove it for a long period.

Removal from too invasive land

First of all, you have to be clear about the strongly invaded areas of field bindweed. It is almost impossible to remove every single rhizome from the lawn just by using sharp tools. Even with very low chances suppose you removed all the weeds but you can't recover your lawn grass with 100%.

Considering so many efforts in vain, you can directly go all out on the lawn. It means cleaning both lawn grass and weed at once will not hurt. Without going all clean, it will take a huge time and cost you to recover your lawn grass. So it's a suggestion for you to use pre-emergents and provide proper care to your next lawn.

Regularly cut from roots and use herbicides

If you regularly take care of your lawn then here is an option for you. When you see field bindweeds grow on your lawn, keep their rhizome cut regularly with the help of scissors.

Now, you can easily use suggested herbicides in these areas after removing all the weeds. Although sometimes, you can't find it easily in the market it is more effective than any other weed-killer herbicides on this weed.

Field bindweed life cycle

Field bindweed is a perennial vine that can grow on lawns or even in gardens. Like every perennial weed and grass, it gets dormant in cold winters. It produces new vines and a weed from rhizomes. These rhizomes can produce more bindweed even after dormancy.

In late spring to early summer, these bindweeds appear again and grow faster. These vines grow for the whole summer and early fall and produce flowers too. After fall again these vines start to get dry and go into dormancy. So lightly, we can say that these field bindweeds grow for 8 to 10 months in a year.

Without treatment or removal, these bindweeds can grow forever.
