Is 'TruGreen' a scam for lawn owners(in USA)?

On a very serious note, people are curious about the question, 'Is TruGreen lawn care a scam?' Well, before commenting on that considering all the aspects of this topic, I want to clarify one thing. If the conclusion is in favor or against TruGreen then don't consider it as my opinion. I'm trying to show you all the aspects, people's opinions, TruGreen lawn care results, and some other related issues. 

Let's understand things in detail about TruGreen and the reality of calling TruGreen a scam. 

Is TruGreen a scam?

For now, I'm avoiding calling TruGreen a scam and also not ignoring the complaints people made on various online platforms.

Let's understand the topic from the TruGreen perspective and then I'll take people's complaints that they made with their proofs. 

How TruGreen works?

TruGreen is a very popular lawn care company that gives its services in the entire United States. They provide their professional experts(as they claim) to work on fields and improve lawn conditions scientifically. For this, first, they inspect your lawn and then suggest suitable lawn care programs which I discussed many times. 

These programs are different according to lawn need but can't be customized or you have to choose a complete lawn care program. These programs are yearly packages that they implement season wise. TruGreen promises to give seasonal progress and report on the lawn on your doorsteps. 

Now, let's see all the promises that TruGreen makes in its advertisements. 

What does TruGreen promise?

TruGreen promises guaranteed results to recover and improve your lawn conditions on its online platforms. They say they figure out the root cause scientifically and work accordingly to improve lawn grass health. 

But the question is- 'What is on the ground reality of it?'

People's complaints about TruGreen services

Where TruGreen promise you guaranteed results and seasonal progress reports, in reality, people are claiming some serious things in their lawns. 

On various online platforms like Reddit, Youtube, Twitter, and Facebook, people blame TruGreen for dishonesty and carelessness as their lawns get more weeds and grass is not improved properly. Here, I'm hiding their identities for privacy reasons but their opinions matter- 

A said- "My lawns had dollar spots earlier so I preferred to call TruGreen to reduce them and improve grass health. After a month, my lawn has similar spots but a very tiny improvement overall. They didn't even test the soil but just used their products and went away. I'm very disappointed with TruGreen."

B said- "I was not at home but my CCTVs were on. TruGreen workers first checked my presence and then they start working quickly and carelessly. I've seen everything on my camera. They ignored the problematic regions and just roughly worked there. They left a report in my letter box that lawn grass is improving and need a few more services."

C said- "Firstly, they're costly and then suggesting me to buy more services otherwise lawn grass will not improve. Honestly, my lawn is getting worst and the dandelions invaded my lawn. I've bought one more program but they said this is only will target grass health and weeds. For other things like aeration, overseeding, and pest control, I've to buy new services. What kind of services are these?"

D said- "My lawn had crabgrass and dandelions in excessive numbers so I called TruGreen instead of local lawn care services as their market reputation. It's been three weeks since their applications, but I can't see satisfactory changes in my lawn. My lawn grass is just thicker but weeds are growing again."

Why are people Calling it a scam?

There is not a single reason I've found online that people are calling TruGreen a scam. Here are some of the common reasons- 

  • Too costly

I can agree that for common people, TruGreen may be costlier than single lawn services from local companies. One who has a very less margin of profit till the end of the month can't afford TruGreen but if he still buys their services, results at least should be satisfactory. 

  • Not satisfactory work

It is a very common complaint of people that TruGreen services are not satisfactory as they are not as scientific as they claim. They added that TruGreen workers just take a few basic tests and then directly apply their applications. Also, they don't take specific lawn section tests and inspections. 

  • Careless field workers

People claimed that TruGreen field workers are careless in their absence and sometimes when you're not too aware of lawn grass. They complained that workers just give you their reports and walk away without any suggestion. 

  • No improvement in lawn grass

One thing that every single person complained about TruGreen's services is that they are not getting better results. All the time either they get their lawn grass worst or the grass remains as it is. Even after their applications, the lawn grass doesn't get a boost or natural growth.

Conclusion

So I've tried my best to give you all the aspects of people's complaints and TruGreen's services. One thing I can say safely is that most people complain about the careless behavior of TruGreen ground workers. Many people found their services neither affordable nor worth it. Some people claimed their lawn grass weeds are not reduced or killed properly and growing again. 

From TruGreen's perspective, I can say that their network is bigger so these common mistakes may appear but with their mistakes, TruGreen should've come up with responsibilities to improve their services. If there is a complaint, people should call on their customer care number and TruGreen should resolve their queries and complaints with honesty. 

One more thing I want to add here is that they've different programs that focus on the particular need of the lawn. So if by mistake you've bought the wrong plan, simply you did a mistake and TruGreen workers are also responsible for that. Firstly, you can't customize them and secondly, you've to buy another costly plan. This is a big problem that TruGreen should resolve with its services. And I hope that TruGreen will focus on people's first services.
